Silverado Hybrid

The Truck

I have had this truck for 2 years now, around 45,000 miles and lets get real. Can I recommend the Chevy Silverado 1500 Hybrid ?????

 NO!

DO NOT BUY THIS TRUCK!!!!

In my opinion; It's mileage stinks and therefore it does not really help the environment or reduce our dependency on foreign oil. It is mechanically unreliable. And costs more then regular pickup trucks that get better mileage.

 Read on below.

These are my experiences and observations. There is nothing scientific about this and your results may vary. (to please the legal department ;>)

When the truck was new its gas mileage stunk.  In my opinion The Mileage Ratings are a Scam.

Then after around 20 - 25,000 miles the truck was getting 15 -16 mpg around town and 19 to 20 mpg on the freeway. I thought the good mileage was because the truck had finally broken in; turned out that it was just broken. In my opinion the mileage ratings are still a scam.

The Check Engine Light kept coming on.  It seems like it has been coming on at an average of once per 10,000 miles of driving, maybe more often. Good Grief!!!

Many times the check engine light would turn itself off before I could get to the dealership and no one could say why the light was coming on.

Then the check engine light came on and staid on a couple of times and a pump in the transmission and a new oxygen sensor later found the vehicle lucky to get 14 or 15 mpg around town and 18 or 19 on the freeway with a dismal average of 16 to 17 mpg if I work real hard at getting good mileage.  This is worse than the gasoline only version if I remember my numbers correctly.

I have a great deal of money into this truck now. To begin with, it cost  more, much more then regular trucks. Then I have the top of the line, most fuel efficient, highest mileage steal belted tires on it. A cab high camper shell to not produce drag and protect tools and equipment. The camper shell should reduce drag from having a tailgate as a wind break just like it did no my '92 Dodge Dakota 1 Ton (about the same mileage too). I am using one of the best synthetic oils to reduce internal engine friction even though it raises my cost of operation and a K&N air filter for less drag on the engine air intake. I only use premium gasoline in the truck to give it the best octane possible. What more could I do?

NOW 11/12/2007 at around 45,000 miles.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS AGAIN HAVING PROBLEMS.

Tell me,  how many times in two years and 50,000 miles should there be a problem with a truck before it is considered a lemon??? At this point, the vehicle is the second most disappointing one I have owned out of around 7 different vehicles in the last 35 to 40 or so years.  To make matters worse, the truck was at the dealership all day yesterday and they did not even look at the error codes. This truck is my only means of transportation and the central hub of my business. When it is down, I am not able to work.

Fuel is currently one of my highest monthly costs and like other companies, with fuel prices escalating I am looking at a way to reduce the bottom line. A fair warning: This Tuck is Not the way to Reduce the Bottom Line!!!!

I had started to accept the bad fuel mileage figuring that this was going to be my lot until the loan is paid off in 2012. But the truck is not even reliable. This could put a small business out of business.

Chevy, you have screwed up and I am not pleased. I am REALLY NOT PLEASED! Would love to find a way to make myself better heard. So far all Chevy does is listen politely and try not to say anything that might make them obligated to fix the problems. Chevy, you are on notice. My next vehicle will not be from you and I will warn anyone that will listen not to buy your products.

Any Thoughts!!!! email me with Silverado in the subject line. consulting@wronkerroom.com
