Ever give a computer system to a charity or throw one away? Ever changed a malfunctioning disk drive out for a new one or a still working drive for a larger, faster drive? What about the data on the disk ? A simple reformatting does not really remove the data.

 

The disk inside a malfunctioning drive can be removed, and placed in another unit to be read by someone that is prying into your life or trying to get information on your customers. Even a working reformatted drive can still be read by the correct software and the drive's secretes revealed. The Department of Defense has a standard for data being erased. One must over-write it 3 or more times so that special software cannot recover the data. With working hard drives and the right software, this is easy. Especially if you have a computer equipped with a caddy system. The above drive was not working, but the disk is intact and can be removed and, with the correct equipment, it can be read. This can leave a company open to legal action if the stolen data is traced back. Opening some of today's drives can be easy, just drill the screws or have the right drivers. Then what can be done? Well the disk must be repeatedly exposed to a strong magnet so that both sides are permed or wiped clean several times and the data is completely removed.  Again, I can help. Just contact me.

Back ups and data on DVDs and CDs is much easier to destroy. Scratching is not the answer! They can be buffed back and breaking them throws dangerous chards of plastic all over the place. Burning them can put toxins into the air and poison someone.

Some office shredders will safely shred them. I recommend that you spend a little more money on your next shredder and get one that destroys DVDs and CDs. It will do credit cards easily too! I can help as well if you do not want to do this yourself.
